By default, appointments always select the most recently added valid referral in the patient's claim.
If the patient has multiple referrals for the same funder claim, you can switch between referrals to use for appointments. You can configure a custom preference for how referrals are selected, or you can simply switch the referral used in an individual appointment.
Tip
Do you usually manage multiple referrals for the same funder at the same time? You can ensure the correct referral is always applied to appointments by linking fees to referral types. No need to keep switching!
-
Click Finances > Fees, then click the Referral Types tab.
-
In the top right, click the lightning icon.
-
In the pop-up, set your preference for Appointment referral selection:
-
Automatic: Appointments automatically use the most recently added valid referral.
-
Manual: Appointments use referrals marked as preferred first and never select referrals set to inactive.
-
-
Click Save.
-
If you selected Manual in Step 3, you can now mark referrals as preferred or deactivate them from use. Open the patient profile and click the Funding tab.
-
When you add or edit a referral in a patient's claim, you can configure the following:
-
Status: Active means this referral can be selected for appointments. Inactive means this referral can never be selected for appointments and will be greyed out in the patient's claim.
-
Priority: If the Preferred box is ticked, this referral is automatically selected first in appointments. If multiple or no referrals are marked preferred, the default selection applies where the most recently added valid referral is used in appointments. A preferred referral is indicated in bold letters under the patient's claim.

Note
To change a referral's status or priority setting, edit the referral by clicking the pencil icon beside the referral.
