Switch from one-way to two-way SMS reminders

If you want patients to respond to reminders, such as to confirm or cancel their attendance, you need to enable two-way responses for SMS reminders.

Tip

With a dedicated phone number, you can send your reminders from the same phone number, allowing patients to identify you and recognise your reminders as authentic messages from your practice.

Switch to two-way reminders

  1. Click Settings > Reminders.

  2. For the group or practitioner settings you want to edit, look for Pre-appointments reminder type. Under Actions, click Icon-Edit.svg pencil icon.

  3. Tick the checkbox for Two-Way Response, and enter a two-way message which will be added after your SMS message. (Note: the message must ask for a reply from the patient. Accepted replies are Y / Yes / Ok / Okay or N / No.)

  4. At the bottom of the pop-up, tick the checkbox if you want to disable reminders to all future-dated appointments, including those you have already scheduled

  5. Click Save.

Tip

If your patients aren’t responding, give them a prompt! Edit your SMS reminder template for pre-appointment reminders to include instructions such as "Reply YES to confirm or call to reschedule."
