Who can do this?
Practitioners only (eligible professions)
With healthcare becoming more accessible through technology, Halaxy allows practitioners to share prescriptions with patients for their record-keeping purposes. By having prescriptions listed in the patient portal, patients can easily keep track of their medication and their wellbeing.
You can share a prescription from a patient's clinical note, share several at once from the Prescriptions report, or set your practice to share every prescription you publish automatically.
Note
To share prescriptions, first make sure that you have Note Sharing enabled in your Settings > General page, under the Patient Access section.
-
After publishing the prescription, next to the Save button, click the down arrow, and select Share with Patient.
-
In the pop-up, the patient's other prescriptions are listed alongside the one you opened, which is already ticked. Tick the checkbox for each additional prescription you want to share.
-
Prescriptions you have already shared, or that have been cancelled or ceased, aren't listed, so you can't share the same prescription twice.
-
To narrow a long list, enter a drug name or date in the search box above the list.
-
-
Confirm the patient’s email address and click Share.
-
Once the patient logs into their account, their prescriptions are listed in the My Health Notes section.
Note
The email address must match the same email the patient uses to log into their patient portal. If the patient hasn’t signed up to Halaxy yet, they receive an email invitation to activate one.
Tip
To share prescriptions for several patients at once, share them from the Prescriptions report instead. See Guide to Clinical reports.
If your practice always wants patients to have their prescriptions in the patient portal, you can turn on automatic sharing instead of sharing each prescription yourself. Automatic sharing is off by default, so nothing changes for your practice until you turn it on.
-
Click Settings > General.
-
Under the Patient Access section, click Edit.
-
Set Auto share prescriptions to Enabled.
-
Click Save.
Prescriptions are shared a short time after you publish them, so you still have a window to revert or cancel a prescription, or share it yourself, before it reaches the patient. Patients who don't have a patient portal account are invited as part of the same process.
Note
If a prescription can't be shared automatically, this is usually because the patient has no email address on their profile, or has opted out of email. You will receive a notification naming the patient and the prescription so you can update their details and share it yourself.
